How I came to dream up the Conception of NWSAG

My name is Anita Baillargeon and I am an active member of the Canadian Ottawa Wood Carver’s (OWC) club.
At the end of the 2005-2006 the OWC carving season  I meet a fellow member who expressed the need to have
a web site to sell her merchandise. During the summer an acquaintance was telling me on how his web site was
not producing sales. Needless to say the day that a free invitation to attend a seminar on ‘marketing on the Internet’
came I jumped at the idea in the hope of learning and may be help. The invitation said ‘and guest’ so Brian
Graham my pyrography teacher came with me.

The seminar was a preamble for the next $20.00 seminar for which I signed up always with the same objective to help. However, it was specified that there will be
a one-on-one consultation to make sure that you buy their web solution no doubt. This is where the idea came to create a fictitious Web Store company and sell
widgets to make my learning experience more complete. That’s when I came to realize that the OWC club members have magnificent carving pieces stashed in
their homes and limited venues to sell their masterpieces. So I decided to create EXOTIC WOOD ART.

Bryan was not able to attend the Internet Marketing Seminar with me. It was an intense, fact finding full day of pressure salesmanship and I came out
energized. After that I changed the company name several times, built a paper prototype and presented it to the east-end OWC Clutch in January for
comments. And comment they did. It was very rich in information and food for thought. What became evident from Kathie Potvin’s, of Woody’s Carving Supplies,
comments was that the 1st priority was to inform\sensitize on the art of appreciating Wood Art.

And the National Wood Sculpture Art Gallery (NWSAG) was born

How I started in Pyrography and Wood Carving

After my mom died and we were about to have a family meeting. I wanted to leave my siblings with a special memento.
Our dad was very hardworking but found time to make wood puzzles for us. So, I decided to reproduce some of the puzzles.
Since I din't work with precision the pieces were not uniform (as they should have been) and it caused a nightmare to keep the
fitting pieces together. To solve the problem I bought a wood burning set at "Toy's R U's" and I was able to given my brother's
and my sister a piece of the pass.

The next September as usual I was looking for a course in something and I came across two courses that interested me The first was painting and the second in
wood burning both of which I had never tried. So I decided to take both and see which one I preferred. Needless to say the wood burning course with Brian
Graham was that winner. After Xmas I was convinced to try wood carving and like they say the rest is history. Only a year later I found out that my paternal
grand-father was a sculpture at the Notre-Dame Cathedral of Montreal in the early 1900"s. Go Figure....
